Firefighter Trainee The City of Johnson City invites you to apply to start your career as a Johnson City Firefighter. Anyone interested in working for the City of Johnson City Fire Department, must meet the minimum requirements for the position and pass the testing process. The information provided will remain on file for a period of one year. You will be notified by email when registration opens for the Firefighter Examination. At that time, you will be asked to provide additional information. The Hiring Process Includes Application for Employment Firefighter Examination / Physical Ability Background Investigation Interview Panel Conditional Offer/New Hire Testing Minimum Requirements U.S. Citizen Be a high school graduate or have GED equivalent Be at least 18 years of age Physically able to perform the duties of a firefighter trainee as defined by the City of Johnson City. Must possess a valid drivers' license with NO suspensions or revocations within the past 24 cumulative months. Not have been convicted of, or pleaded guilty to, or entered a plea of nolo contendre to a felony charge or to any violation of any federal or state laws, or any city ordinances relating to force, violence, theft, dishonesty, gambling, liquor, or controlled substances, and not under any other than an honorable discharge from any of the armed forces of the United States. Training (all training provided by the agency) Rookie School (NRFTA) 12 Weeks Basic Fire Training 7 Weeks Hazmat Technician 3 Weeks Emergency Medical Responder 2 Weeks On-boarding (Day Shift) 2 Weeks Trainee Status on Apparatus (24 Hour Shift) 4 Weeks +/- Basic Emergency Medical Technician (Northeast State) 16 Weeks Advanced Medical Technician (Northeast State) 16 Weeks Applicants already certified in Tennessee will be eligible for the following incentives if hired: Tennessee Certified Firefighter I $1,200 incentive Tennessee EMT (Basic) $1,350 incentive Tennessee EMT (Advanced) $1,350 incentive Documented evidence of the training level must be provided and is subject to verification by the Human Resources department.
